Jetsetter: Westin Palace Madrid

On a quick visit to Spain last year, I spent two nights at the majestic Westin Palace in Madrid. Originally built in 1912, this opulent grande dame keeps up her appearance under the auspices of Starwood these days.

The standout feature here is La Rotonda restaurant with its gorgeous Belle Epoque glass dome, but the hotel's location (catty corner from both the Prado and the Thyssen-Bornemisza) is unrivaled in the Spanish capital.

The Points Guy: Intercontinental Hanoi Westlake Hotel Review

After a couple days in Ho Chi Minh City and a quick beach trip to Da Nang, I headed to the capital of Vietnam, Hanoi.

While there, I stayed at a beautiful Intercontinental property on Westlake, a vast freshwater lake in the city that is surrounded by some of the area's most well-to-do neighborhoods.

The hotel itself was very nice, if a bit removed from the historical city center, but taxis were cheap and plentiful, so it was easy to get around, and the lake views were stunning.

The Points Guy: Park Hyatt Saigon Hotel Review

The third country on my Asian adventure was Vietnam, where my first stop was Ho Chi Minh City - or Saigon, as it was formerly called.

While there, I spent three nights at the Park Hyatt Saigon while during the days I got out and explored the city's sights including the Reunification Palace, and a cruise along the river plus some fabulous meals out at restaurants like the Temple Club and Cuc Gach Quan.
