I have been meaning to try Canelé in Atwater Village for a long time now, ever since writing about its communal table. I had heard only good things about the nouveau French menu, and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised when I ate dinner there last week with my brother...despite his embarrassment as I snapped pictures of the food and décor. The flavor combinations were interesting, the ingredients were fresh and assembled expertly, and everyone was extremely friendly. The only thing I didn't like was the sort of dingy block in Atwater that the restaurant is located, but I guess it just adds to the atmosphere. Here's my LA.com review.
